Soil Improver

What is Soil Improver?

Soil Improver

Why complete soil improver treatments?

Encouraging healthy free draining soil conditions promote deeper rooting grass plants and therefore even healthier drought tolerant grass.

Repeat applications will make the soil more friable, allowing oxygen to get to the root zone thus improving the plants ability of taking up other nutrients, plus as the soil is more friable drainage will be far more efficient, encouraging deeper stronger roots.

This process is carried out annually, once in Spring and then again in Autumn/Winter when lawn conditions are suitable i.e. not boggy, dry or frosty.

This treatment is ideal for customers with clay soils and also new builds where clay can be a contributing factor in poor grass growth.

The effects over a period of time are shown in the diagram.

Benefits of improving medium and clay soils
  • Improved drainage for deeper rooting grass plants.

  • Increased oxygen to the root zone.

  • Improved nutrient exchange for healthier grass.

  • Ideal for customers with clay soil.

Added Calcium

Our soil improver also has the added benefit of Calcium. Calcium is the major element in any type of plant and low Calcium levels in any growing medium (soil) are very restrictive to plant development for all sorts of reasons.

Calcium/Magnesium ratios are important in soils and often when soils are ‘tight or sticky’ its because Magnesium levels are too high especially when the soil has a high percentage of clay.

Our soil improver program helps to disperse some of the Magnesium and replace it with Calcium. This in turn makes the soil more friable allowing oxygen to get to the root zone therefore making the plant far more capable of taking up other nutrients.

The other advantage is, because the soil is more friable drainage is far more efficient.

Encouraging healthy free draining soil conditions promote deeper rooting grass plants and therfore even healthier drought tollerant grass.

Repeat applications will make the soil more friable, allowing oxygen to get to the root zone thus improving the plants ability of taking up other nutrients, plus as the soil is more friable drainage will be far more efficient, encouraging deeper stronger roots.

This all depends on the soil type, but we would expect you to start seeing small improvements after the first treatment.

Repeated annual soil improvement treatments are recommended to see long term improvements in the soil (especially in clay soil)
